Greek band Timeless Afternoon are finally releasing their long-in-the-works debut album, a self-titled collection arriving May 15 via self-release with distribution from Sound Effect Records.

Decades in the making, Timeless Afternoon pulls together material written across more than 30 years, blending progressive rock, psychedelia, jazz, blues, and classical influences into a fluid, keyboard-driven sound.

Formed in Patras, the project centers around keyboardist Nikos Petrellis and vocalist/multi-instrumentalist Kostas Pikoulas, who first crossed paths in the ‘90s in an earlier band lineup. Though those initial sessions didn’t lead anywhere at the time, several of Pikoulas’ songs have now been revisited and recorded alongside newer material, forming the backbone of the LP.

The album opens with Pikoulas’ ‘The Wind Sighs,’ described as a haunted reflection on lost love, while ‘Summer Rain’ leans into lighter, more impressionistic territory. The title track ‘Timeless Afternoon’ drifts into more expansive, psychedelic territory, and ‘Blues Away’ delivers one of the record’s most direct rock moments. Elsewhere, bassist George Nikolopoulos contributes compositions that pull toward folk, including ‘Count the Days’ and ‘In Vain,’ while Petrellis adds three of his own tracks, including the Greek-language ‘Kanonikotita,’ featuring lyrics by anarchist poet Antonis Stasinopoulos.

The current lineup is rounded out by guitarist Harris Potsios and drummer George Amaxas, with guest string arrangements from Alexandros Kakaroumpas adding further texture across select tracks.
