Five Years Off, American Sharks Are ‘Not Dead Yet’

American Sharks are releasing their third album, ‘Not Dead Yet,’ on April 17 through Permanent Teeth, ending a five-year gap that felt longer than it probably was.

They’re not a band built for long pauses as too much of their appeal comes from momentum, from songs that hit really fast and don’t hang around. ‘Not Dead Yet’ is a nine tracks, no real detours, built on the same idea they’ve been working on since their 2013 debut. The album pulls in a stacked list of guests who know their way around volume. Mike Derks, Zach Blair, Kyle Shutt, David Sullivan, and Leo Lydon all contribute, which makes sense given where American Sharks have spent most of their career: on the road, shoulder to shoulder with bands like GWAR, Clutch, and The Sword, figuring out how to make simple songs hit as heavy as possible.

If ’11:11′ leaned into sharpening their edges, this one feels like a complete reset… Faster songs, tighter structures, fewer frills.  They’re taking it straight to stages across North America, starting in Denver and winding their way through the West Coast, Midwest, and East Coast before closing in Nashville. Most of the run is shared with Rickshaw Billie’s Burger Patrol, which should keep things appropriately loud.

There’s nothing complicated about what American Sharks are doing here. Loud guitars, sharp hooks, no patience for anything that slows it down. After five years off, that focus feels earned.
