Denver Trio Harboured Streams ‘Halifax’ Off Upcoming Sophomore Album ‘We’re Only The Love That We Lead’
Denver metal trio Harboured returns May 29 with their second album, ‘We’re Only The Love That We Lead,’ releasing via Lost Future Records.
Formed in 2020 and now operating as a tight three-piece, the band features Allegaeon members Michael Stancel and Brandon Michael alongside Oak, Ash and Thorn drummer Cierra White.
The group tracked the record at Oakland’s Anti-Sleep Studios with engineer Scott Evans to capture a live-in-the-room energy. Harboured is stepping away from the straightforward blackgaze of their earlier work. Instead, they are pulling tech-death and ambient black metal into a strange collision with indie rock. Stancel describes the sonic shift as an experiment, questioning what Phoebe Bridgers might sound like if she grew up on Failure and Alcest. The resulting eight original tracks, plus a cover of The Faint’s ‘Agenda Suicide,’ aim to hook metal freaks as well as others.
The album’s themes tackle human flaws without falling into obvious emotional traps. Wanting to avoid what he called “whiny ex-boyfriendcore,” Stancel masked his personal lyrics behind the concept of faulty engineering. The physical collapse of bridges and city infrastructure serves as a concrete metaphor for crumbling morality and fractured relationships.

Produced by Evans, Harboured, and Benjamin Kaplan, with mastering by Brad Boatright at Audiosiege, ‘We’re Only The Love That We Lead’ drops this spring on limited edition LP and digital download.
