beaming Drops ‘Stuck (here)’ | New Album, ‘horseshoe’
After years in the trenches, Derek Ted and Braden Lawrence built their collaborative project around one core question: Are we having fun yet?
Judging by their brand new single ‘Stuck (here)’ out today, the answer is a resounding yes. The track arrives with a companion video and hits a perfect pocket of bittersweet, Hovvdy-esque melancholia. It serves as the newest taste of their upcoming full-length album, ‘horseshoe,’ dropping April 17th via Rose Garden.
Braden spent 13 years behind the kit for Philly indie darlings The Districts, signing to Fat Possum right out of high school and touring the globe with heavyweights like Modest Mouse. Derek cut his teeth busking in the Bay Area before becoming a go-to producer in LA for artists like Field Medic and Dora Jar. When they crossed paths in Los Angeles, the collaboration sparked naturally. Braden started playing drums for Derek’s live shows and sessions. Soon enough, they were writing for themselves. They walked into the studio devoid of expectations. They just wanted to make music they actually liked.
Across the 10 tracks on ‘horseshoe,’ that freewheeling energy is front and center. Derek and Braden took a blank-canvas approach for this record. They wrote and finished entire tracks in single sittings, embracing whatever weird and wild directions the music demanded.
“I don’t even know what this album is yet, but I know we worked hard on it and did the best we could,” Derek says. “There’s nothing else we have in mind at this point beyond ‘Do we like this?’ It’s kind of freeing, in a way.”
To cap off a busy year of opening for acts like Vundabar and Goon, beaming is packing up the van for a US tour alongside Field Medic. Tickets are on sale now.
