Caicos, the indie-pop vision of songwriter Alex Frenkel (Gospels), has released his building, rhythmic new single ‘Chain Reaction,’ alongside his new EP/7″ ‘Behemoth / Chain Reaction,’ out today via Very Jazzed. The release follows his acclaimed 2023 LP, ‘Ascension Intention.’

The two-track record is a globally collaborative effort, featuring returning musicians like Mike Gordon on drums and Phil Joly mixing. They are joined by new heavy hitters: Sarah Goldstone (keyboardist for boygenius) on piano, a gospel choir from Nigeria, a string orchestra from Serbia, and mastering by Heba Kadry.

At its heart, the EP explores the psychological toll and potential healing found in new relationships. Speaking about the single, Frenkel shared the deep meaning behind the track:

“‘Chain Reaction’ describes the journey that a protagonist might take to the part of themselves that has been stagnating and closed off for some time… Even the central character doesn’t initially know how to get back there without further personal detriment. With some help from a catalyst (i.e. a new experience or relationship), it slowly becomes clear that the risks and dangers they need to overcome along the path that goes back to that lost, sensitive part of themselves pale in comparison to the rewards. The wherewithal gained through the re-examination of what was neglected and making peace with it helps the protagonist chart a new course forward, with their spirit more intact than before.”
