Celebrity Telethon Announce Self-Titled Album with Lead Single ‘Rock ‘N’ Roll Matinee’

Celebrity Telethon are set to release their self titled new album on New Year’s Eve on vinyl and digital. The first single, ‘Rock ‘N’ Roll Matinee,’ is out now.

The group was previously known as Jack Habegger’s Celebrity Telethon, known for their album ‘The Knockout Game’ and for sharing bills with acts like Tav Falco’s Panther Burns. With a streamlined name and augmented lineup, they now deliver a sound that fuses mutant motorik, pervert punk, garage glam, and prickly power pop.

‘Rock ‘N’ Roll Matinee’ is effervescent with saxophone and bongos, sounding like an unlikely collision between The Saints’ and Roy Loney era Flamin’ Groovies’. The music video, co directed by filmmaker Mark Habegger, captures an underground dance happening in a legendary Northwest venue, evoking the spirit of The High Numbers in ’64.

The new record is a dive into pop psychodramas, pulp fantasy crime jags driven by swamp stomp and the humid tension of midnight Americana.. Guest appearances include Mike Wilcox (Dave Vanian’s Phantom Chords) and Jo Dog Almeida (The Dogs D’Amour). Tracks like ‘Skin Flicks’ and ‘Neighborhood Regulars’ singe the synapses, conjuring the glitzy grease of the New York Dolls and the caveman howl of The Stooges. The second side explores rootsier tendencies, harnessing the barroom brass of early Rolling Stones.

The collection climaxes with an avant primitive cover of the Stonewall Jackson via Elvis track ‘I Washed My Hands in Muddy Water.’ Recorded and released entirely by the band, this statement arrives untainted and unabridged.
