Vilde Tuv previews ‘Truthbomb’ with new single ‘Start/Stop’

Vilde Tuv has released ‘Start/Stop,’ the closing preview of her forthcoming LP ‘Truthbomb,’ due 19 September on Poesy Records.

Across the past decade, the Bergen-based artist has constructed a singular vocabulary in sound and performance: flute drones, elastic electronics, and song structures that oscillate between ritual and pop. Her 2021 album ‘Melting Songs’ was a sustained, instrumental exploration of timbre and breath, while ‘Truthbomb’ signals a more visceral turn, grounding her practice in rhythm and physicality.

‘Start/Stop’ crystallises that shift. Sparse, percussive pulses open into a tense interplay of voice and electronic interference, edging close to Laurie Anderson’s speech-songs and the sculpted intimacy of FKA twigs. The accompanying video by Maria Hilde situates Tuv in an ambiguous space between forward motion and stasis, its imagery amplifying the track’s meditation on resistance, compulsion and release.

Speaking about the piece, Tuv describes it as “about trying to control your life force by attempting to stop it.” “But the more you resist, the stronger it grows, until you realize the only way forward is surrender, and to let your heart burn up completely…”

‘Truthbomb’ follows her debut ‘D’meg’ (2016) and the Spellemannprisen-winning ‘Melting Songs.’ It continues Tuv’s movement between the intimate and the monumental, testing how far the body and its impulses can be stretched into sound.
