Imagine Built to Spill if they’d spent their formative years soaking up the sun and sonic eccentricities of Rio, then jammed with a krautrock rhythm section and a deep cut Luiz Gonzaga record. That’s Oruã. This quartet, born out of Rio’s turbulent recent history, breathes new life into guitar music, weaving together ’90s lo-fi grit, Afrobeat’s interlocking grooves, and the psychedelic fringes of Brazilian rock.

Now, with ‘Slacker’ recorded in Seattle with Jim Roth, they’re ready to export their “collective trance” to the world. Catch them tearing through Europe this July – Paris on the 23rd, London on the 24th – before they bring their hypnotic live show stateside later in the year.
