Sleepwalk Share New Single ‘Jan 22’
Chicago’s Sleepwalk have shared ‘Jan 22’, the second song from their forthcoming album ‘View From The Outside’, out November 13 via MNRK Heavy.
We heard ‘Sandbox’ from Sleepwalk last month. Now they are back with ‘Jan 22’, a very different song and one with a nice story behind it.
Ryan Davis wrote the lyrics while walking home from band practice on a snowy night in Chicago. Unlike plenty of people in the city, he actually likes winter, and much of the song came from simply paying attention to what was around him on that walk.
“‘Jan 22’ is a love letter to winter time in the city, as well as a general celebration of life,” he says. “It’s easy to focus on the bad things and miss the beauty.”
The new song is a quieter side of Sleepwalk than ‘Sandbox’, with synth and guitar giving it an almost dream-pop feel in places.
‘View From The Outside’ was recorded at Earth Analog in Tolono, Illinois, the studio of Hum’s Matt Talbott, with Zac Montez returning to work with the band. It will be Sleepwalk’s first full-length album in five years, following 2021’s ‘Underneath The Shade’ and the more recent ‘Out Of Focus’ EP.
The band will play Sleeping Village in Chicago on November 12, the night before the album comes out, followed by a run of US dates in December.
