Sacred Buzz Share ‘Nothing to Hide’ from Upcoming Self-Titled Album
Sacred Buzz found the setting for ‘Nothing to Hide’ at the foot of one of Berlin’s stranger buildings, a huge concrete structure in Adlershof that looks a little like an egg dropped from somewhere else.
The Trudelwindkanal was built between 1934 and 1936 for the German Aviation Research Institute, originally to study what happens when an aircraft goes into a spin. Decades later, Sacred Buzz ended up underneath it with director Khaled AlShannan, filming the video for the second single from their forthcoming self-titled debut album. It’s a good setting for ‘Nothing to Hide,’ which finds Sacred Buzz moving further into a more hypnotic sound, with the rhythm holding everything together while the guitar and organ circle around it.
Ivan Skvortsov describes it as a change of direction for the group: “The song represents a new direction for Sacred Buzz, as the band brings more psychedelic and refined elements into their sound. It tells a story of the joy and responsibility of being truthful to yourself, of freeing the mind from age-old beliefs and rusted dogmas.”
For the video, the band and Khaled AlShannan wanted to find somewhere around Berlin that looked a little unusual, and they eventually settled on the Trudelwindkanal. Adam Almeer and Mohammad Zidane helped with the filming. Only later did the band notice that the shape of the building also looked a little like the form on Ardneks’ album artwork, which has an eye inside it.
The album was recorded in just three days at Monoton Studio in Berlin by Fabien de Menou, with Ivan Skvortsov producing and Pablo Thiermann mixing. The eight tracks find Sacred Buzz leaning further into krautrock and psychedelia…
