Content Blocks Share ‘On the Market’ from New Album ‘Hard Out’
New York duo Content Blocks have shared ‘On the Market,’ the second single from their forthcoming debut album ‘Hard Out,’ due October 2nd via STTT Records.
The song follows July’s ‘Beach Resort,’ though this time the escape isn’t just a getaway. ‘On the Market’ is about leaving the city for somewhere quieter, and then that new life starting to feel off almost right away.
Content Blocks put it like this: “A tale as old as time, about moving from the dense urban landscape to serene terrains. Shed the second layer; leave it all behind. Am I finally content? Do I know that person, looking in? They seem familiar; the silhouette in the distance, through the window. It’s so quiet here. Maybe this transformation was a huge mistake; it feels like it may be too late. Perhaps that someone can replace what I’ve given up. It’s time we open the door, attempt to fill the void.”
That uncertainty suits the music. Matthew Hord and Ian Campbell keep things tight and fairly cold, EBM and industrial pulsing somewhere underneath, but ‘On the Market’ doesn’t sound like it’s chasing a particular sound. Too much unease in it for that.
It also gives another indication of where ‘Hard Out’ is heading. The seven-track album was written and produced between New York and Ibiza, then recorded and mixed by Jordan Lovelace at Spice World in Brooklyn, with mastering by Josh Bonati.
For all the machinery around the music, Content Blocks seem most interested in what people do when the life they have built stops making sense, and whether changing the surroundings really changes anything at all.
