Pluralone Release ‘A Drop In The Ocean’, Share ‘Feels Like I’ve Done Wrong’ Video
Pluralone, the solo project of Josh Klinghoffer, have released a new album, ‘A Drop In The Ocean’, via ORG Music.
Klinghoffer is best known as a former guitarist with Red Hot Chili Peppers and as a touring member of Pearl Jam, but Pluralone is where his writing tends to sit closer to the bone. ‘A Drop In The Ocean’ is his fourth album under the name and his first since 2022’s ‘This Is The Show’.
The new record is built around a simpler setup than some of his earlier work. Many of the songs started with Klinghoffer and an acoustic guitar, and that shapes the feel of the album. It is restrained in places, direct in others, and less concerned with hiding behind sound than following a thought until it lands somewhere.
Along with the album, Pluralone have shared ‘Feels Like I’ve Done Wrong’, the opening track. It follows earlier singles ‘Peer Into Your Dreams’ and ‘Ranting and Raving’.
“This was the first song written after the completion of the last Pluralone album,” Klinghoffer says. “It shows how even in the most auspicious of times, there is an underlying and constant theme I can’t seem to shake. This song is yet another in a long series that’s trying to help me get to the bottom of something.”
‘A Drop In The Ocean’ was made with producer Eric Palmquist, with backing vocals on several songs from writer Chelsea Hodson. The album also includes ‘I Hope You Knew’, which was quietly released on March 25, the anniversary of Taylor Hawkins’ passing, and ‘Sadly’, which keeps the original iPhone voice memo of Klinghoffer writing the song in real time.
The album deals with memory, loss and uncertainty, and reflects on continuing despite the absence of clear answers. Klinghoffer said: “My whole life has been about learning to enjoy the process rather than rushing to get to the result.”
