Québec producers Milli & Bob have released ‘Alys Remixes Deluxe’ through Groupe Fovéa, returning to the songs of Alys Robi, one of Québec’s best-known singers of the 1940s.

We featured their video for ‘Brésil’ back in October, ahead of the album’s release. The duo, Millimetrik and Bob Riddim, have been working with Robi’s recordings for some time, having already released an earlier collection, ‘Alys Remixes’, in May.

Robi made her name singing Latin American songs at a time when very few Canadian performers were enjoying comparable international success. Her repertoire included ‘Tico-Tico’, ‘Bésame Mucho’ and ‘Adios Muchacho’, songs that Milli & Bob have now revisited with electronic arrangements.

The new collection draws on house, disco, electro-funk, trance and dub, while keeping the original songs recognisable. It’s an interesting choice of material, particularly given Robi’s fondness for Latin rhythms, which were a large part of her appeal in the first place.
