Generacion Suicida Share ‘Hombre Nuevo’, the Title Track From Their New Album
We’re debuting ‘Hombre Nuevo’, the title track from the forthcoming album by South Central Los Angeles punk band Generacion Suicida.
‘Hombre Nuevo’ will be released on August 28 through Vitriol Records. The ten-track album follows ‘Regeneracion’, originally issued in 2021, and continues the band’s mix of rough-and-ready punk and sombre, melodic songcraft.
ony Abarca says the title track is about trying to change while dealing with the people and circumstances that don’t want to see you move forward.
“‘Hombre Nuevo’ is about trying to break from the cycles that have kept me down most of my life and the chaos that ensues when people don’t want you to change. It can feel lonely when going through these changes and this song is a reference to that.”
The song introduces an album concerned with identity, strained relationships and the uneasy process of leaving old patterns behind. Although there are still faster and more aggressive songs across the record, Abarca says much of ‘Hombre Nuevo’ reflects the more melancholic state of mind in which it was written.
“The theme of this album is about letting go of relationships and a general loss of identity. It is in a lot of ways, an extension of our previous album Regeneracion. This album is all about change, acceptance, and the ideas behind what people perceive us to be. Musically, this album leans more to the melancholic side than the fast and angry side. It leans that way because it’s just how I was feeling throughout the majority of the process, but we still threw in some faster more aggressive songs as well.”
Generacion Suicida began in 2010 as a side project formed by Abarca and drummer Kiwi Martinez in a South Central Los Angeles garage. Coming out of the neighbourhood’s backyard punk scene, the band built its name through Spanish-language songs, DIY releases and years of touring across North and South America, Europe and Asia. Its long-standing motto remains ‘musica del barrio, para el barrio’: music from the neighbourhood, for the neighbourhood.
The new album was tracked by Alex Estrada at Pale Moon Ranch, then mixed and mastered by Jack Shirley at Atomic Garden. The lineup on the recording is Abarca on vocals and guitar, Martinez on drums and Justin on bass.
‘Hombre Nuevo’ is available to pre-order on transparent black vinyl and transparent red vinyl with black splatter. Generacion Suicida will support the release with a run of North American tour dates this summer:
