Adam Weil Returns With New Album ‘A Little Broken’

Midwest singer-songwriter Adam Weil has released ‘A Little Broken’, a 13-track album of restrained, personal Americana produced by his longtime friend and collaborator Sheldon Gomberg.

The record deals with disappointment, ageing, family life and the difficult business of carrying on when things have not worked out quite as expected. These themes are explored with a measured, understated approach. The songs are simple and straightforward, with a focus on the content.

‘A Little Broken’ was recorded at Carriage House Studio in Silver Lake, Los Angeles, with engineering by Kevin Smith. Gomberg, a Grammy-winning producer who also worked on Weil’s 2024 album ‘Same As I Used to Be’, has known the songwriter for many years. The pair first worked together after Weil moved to Los Angeles, when Gomberg was still playing bass.

Their long working relationship appears to have shaped the sessions. “There’s a deep level of trust between us,” Weil says. “He knows how to draw out performances that feel completely honest.”

Weil sings and plays acoustic guitar, joined by a large cast that includes drummers Jay Bellerose and Gary Novak, guitarists Joshua Gooch and Trevor Menear, bassists Anna Butterss, Alan Hampton, Jorgen Carlsson and Jennifer Condos, organist Carey Frank, percussionist Rob Humphreys, and backing vocalists Chris Stills and Kipp Lennon.

Although ‘Same As I Used to Be’ introduced Weil to many listeners, his musical history goes back considerably further. He made records with a college band and later with Rhythm Tree, worked with producer Marvin Etzioni on ‘Proof’, and released ‘Out of the Blue’ before stepping away from music for several years.

‘A Little Broken’ continues the return begun with his 2024 album. As Weil puts it, the title is not about defeat but accepting that “the cracks don’t mean you’ve failed, they mean you’ve lived, and you’re still standing.”
