Pete Fij Shares ‘Don’t Bring Me Sunshine’ From New Album ‘Up’s The New Down’
Pete Fij has shared ‘Don’t Bring Me Sunshine,’ the latest single from his upcoming album ‘Up’s The New Down,’ out September 4 via Tip Top Records. The track follows earlier singles ‘Love’s Coming Back’ and ‘Cuckoo,’ both of which introduced a brighter and more energetic side of Fij’s new solo material.
Best known as the frontman and guitarist of Adorable, Fij returns here with jangly guitars, a strong melodic lift, and his usual dry sense of humour. He describes ‘Don’t Bring Me Sunshine’ as an “anti love song,” pairing its bah-humbug lyrics with the feeling of driving fast, windows open, stereo loud, and summer stretching ahead.
The new album marks a reset for Fij after years of more downbeat songs and a long break from solo work. Picking up the electric guitar again, he reconnects with his fuzzed-up dream-pop past while adding touches of pop and electronica.
‘Up’s The New Down’ includes 11 tracks, including ‘Love’s Coming Back,’ ‘Cuckoo,’ ‘Don’t Bring Me Sunshine,’ ‘Kitchen Disco,’ ‘Sci-Fi Siren,’ and ‘Fragments.’ With this new single, Fij keeps the mood sharp but open, turning disappointment into something loud, melodic, and strangely freeing.
