Kramer Releases Solo LP ‘…and the crimson moon whispers goodbye’ & Shares ‘Whispers for the Dead’ Video
The Shimmy-Disc founder returns with ‘…and the crimson moon whispers goodbye,’ an elegiac drone-poem for the living and the dead.
Kramer, the legendary producer, multi-instrumentalist, and architect of the “Shimmy-Sound” (Galaxie 500, Low, Daniel Johnston), has announced the release of his first solo LP in five years. Titled ‘…and the crimson moon whispers goodbye,’ the album arrives December 12th via Shimmy-Disc. Moving beyond the constraints of lyrical language, the new LP is conceived as a four-part minimalist “drone-poem.” It represents a evolution in Kramer’s ongoing exploration of ambient composition…a journey rooted in deep listening, subconscious exploration, and the spaces between silence.
Coinciding with the album release, Kramer shares the visual accompaniment for the focus track, ‘Whispers for the Dead.’ Utilizing his signature “ambient-cinema” approach, the piece functions as a storytelling device to deepen the LP’s thematic world. Saturated in the crimson hues central to the album’s visual identity, the work traverses a landscape that shifts from menacing, industrial darkness into snow-laden drone. The album is positioned as a memento mori. Reflecting on the project’s intent, Kramer offers a sobering dedication: “56 million people die every year… This music, and this entire LP, is for them.”
Physical and digital editions of the LP include 48 minutes of essential bonus material: a live recording of ‘Music for Pianos & Sunflowers’ captured at the Big Ears Festival 2025. This performance features a collaboration with acclaimed multi-instrumentalist and improviser Shahzad Ismaily, further cementing Kramer’s status within the contemporary avant-garde.
This release follows his 2020 Artist In Residence box set (Joyful Noise Recordings), marking a definitive new chapter in his search for sonic transcendence.
