Pete Fij is breaking his silence with a surge of unexpected optimism. The former Adorable frontman has released his new single, ‘Love’s Coming Back,’ available now on all streaming platforms.

A limited edition 7″ vinyl featuring the exclusive B-side ‘Houston’ arrives on November 28th. The track serves as the first taste of his upcoming solo album, ‘Up’s The New Down,’ slated for a summer release via Tip Top Records.

This material marks a significant “reset” for Fij. Known in recent years for his melancholic, downtempo collaborations with The House of Love’s Terry Bickers, Fij’s new direction was born from a need to shake off the weight of the last few years. Following a breakup, a stint working in a care home during the pandemic, and time spent officiating funerals, he felt it was time to let the light back in.

“I decided to have a reset,” Fij explains. By quitting the day job, picking up the electric guitar, and falling in love again, he has channeled that renewed energy into a sound that blends his fuzzed-out dream-pop roots with modern electronica and higher BPMs.

Fij has been a cult figure in British indie since the early 90s. From fronting the Creation Records-signed Adorable, a band Noel Gallagher famously regretted dropping…to the critical acclaim of his project Polak, his songwriting has always been revered. However, ‘Love’s Coming Back’ feels distinct. His rich baritone, often compared to Lee Hazlewood and Richard Hawley, sounds more characterful than ever.

After a career defined by “downbeat songs of melancholy and loss,” Pete Fij is finally looking up.
