Pang Attack Unveils ‘Low Born Man’ from Album ‘Tears For The Wave’
Montreal dream gaze band Pang Attack returns with their hypnotic blend of psychedelic shoegaze.
Since 2011, fronted by singer songwriter Alex Hackett, the band has evolved from bedroom recordings like ‘Dreamer’s Drug’ and ‘Phantom Forest’ to full band explorations on ‘North Country Psychic Girls,’ recorded with Jace Lasek and featuring guests from Suuns and Leif Vollebekk.
After a Covid era hiatus, ‘Tears For The Wave’ marks a more organic chapter for Pang Attack. The album expands on Hackett’s lush, crooner tinged psychedelia with strings, diverse instrumentation, and nods to Scott Walker, Serge Gainsbourg, and Roy Orbison, while keeping bursts of garage fuzz and analogue synth.
‘Low-Born Man,’ the album’s opening track, is a strikingly political song reflecting on class inequality and a fractured world. The black and white video, directed by Montreal’s Jeffrey Mitchell, features Congo born Chris Ngabonziza navigating a post industrial landscape, haunted by Tanya Kunts’ enigmatic overlord, with a cameo by Suuns guitarist Joe Yarmush and his son Roscoe.
A mainstay of Montreal’s indie scene for over 20 years, Hackett has also played in KTL, Femme Generation, TV Erased, and collaborated with Peter Holmström of The Dandy Warhols. Pang Attack remains his primary songwriting vehicle, now delivering their most ambitious vision yet.
