Cagoules et Décalcomanies: A New Acoustic Experiment
The quartet Cagoules et Décalcomanies will release their album of the same name on October 17, 2025, via the NEUKLANG label. The project is an acoustic musical experiment where writing serves as liberation, focusing on breath, voice, friction, and percussion.
The group is composed of four long time friends with a shared vision of sound: Fanny Menegoz (Flutes, voice), Nicolas Stephan (Saxophones, voice), Théo Girard (Double bass, voice), Rafaël Koerner (Drums). The album’s compositions are by Fanny Ménégoz and Nicolas Stephan. The project’s title, which translates to “Hoods and Decals,” is a meeting hidden beneath hoods, and the act of playing, suggesting a temporary tattoo that our skin will remember. The music explores themes like a child’s discovery of discord.
The musicians have extensive histories together in various groups. Fanny Ménégoz, a flutist and composer, is a founding member of Cie Haoma and co directs the duo Dune with drummer Rafaël Koerner. Saxophonist and composer Nicolas Stephan is a founding member of the Surnatural Orchestra and Le Bruit du Sign. Double bass player Théo Girard has played both contemporary jazz and traditional Eastern European music.
