Movie Club Unveils “Grindhouse Venice” Double Feature & 7″

Venice Beach alchemists Movie Club are back with their 7th studio offering, ‘Black Mamba,’ a three-song EP dropping Friday, June 6th and it’s a full multimedia assault, complete with a 7-inch vinyl and a double music video experience.

Drummer Jessamyn Violet and guitarist Vince Cuneo continue to weave their love for cinema into their sound. They enlisted Mike Kriebel (Oh Sees, Ty Segall) for recording and mixing, with Tim Lefebvre (David Bowie) on bass and David Ralicke (St. Vincent) on baritone sax. Expect their heaviest tracks to date, centered thematically around the ‘Year of the Snake.’

Enjoy a 10-minute short film serving as the visual companion for singles ‘Python’ and ‘Black Mamba.’ This Tarentino-esque double feature, directed and edited by the band, kicks off with a humorous spoof trailer for Jessamyn’s upcoming novel, Venice Peach. The film then dives into the ‘Python’ video, with Vince as a clown goofing around Venice. This is immediately followed by ‘Black Mamba,’ directed by Vince, featuring Jessamyn as an assassin. Vince notes, “What I enjoyed most was that we live in a place where people told me they liked my “outfit” instead of saying they liked my “costume.” To me, that sums up Venice Beach: Accepting of anyone and anything.”

Jessamyn adds, “We believe art is absolutely essential—especially right now—and we all must do whatever it takes to keep going.”

The Black Mamba EP and Jessamyn’s novel are just the beginning. Movie Club is embarking on their Psychedelic Circus West Coast tour, from June 10th to June 19th.
