a/lpaca’s ‘laughter, us us’ – a manic spiral into the void

This one’s a certified head-scrambler. a/lpaca—Italy’s finest purveyors of kraut-scorched post-punk delirium—are back with ‘laughter, us us,’ the first transmission from their upcoming album.

If you were hoping for something smooth and digestible, kindly step aside. This track is a free-fall into the funhouse, where the mirrors are cracked, the floor tilts beneath your feet, and the whole thing smells like last night’s spilled beer.

The band calls it “deconstructed and nonsensical, self-ironic and bitter, robotic and unstable,” and honestly, that just scratches the surface. It’s a nervous system meltdown in the best way possible, a soundtrack to those moments when you laugh yourself stupid just to keep from screaming. Christian Bindelli’s lyrics, co-written with Nicolas Pedrazzoli, capture that sickly sweet, booze-laced camaraderie of knowing we’re all circling the drain together.

a/lpaca have been making a glorious racket since 2018, their 2021 debut make it better establishing them as psych-punk agitators par excellence.

They’ve been wrecking festival stages across Europe and now they’re gearing up for the next phase. ‘Laughter’ drops may 16 via Dischi Sotterranei (Italy), Sulatron (Germany), and Sour Grapes (UK).
