Exclusive track premiere of ‘Willow Pillow’ by Jeff Evans Porkestra, from the upcoming EP, available April 19.

The Jeff Evans Porkestra’s latest EP, ‘Willow Pillow,’ embodies a distinctive blend of eccentric Americana, drawing inspiration from the excitement and upheaval of newfound romance. Jeff Evans, a seasoned figure in Atlanta’s roots and alt-country scene, unveils this fresh musical venture following his extensive work with Chickens and Pigs. Recorded at East Atlanta Recording with producer Sean McPherson, the EP maintains an intimate, live feel, reflecting Evans’ preference for a comfortable, informal atmosphere conducive to creativity. Featuring a collaborative effort from a talented ensemble, ‘Willow Pillow’ weaves a narrative of love, showcased through Evans’ poetic lyrics and dynamic musical influences, rooted in a rich tapestry of personal experiences and diverse musical inspirations.

Jeff Evans on ‘Willow Pillow’: “‘Willow Pillow’ is a musical rewrite of the original version, released on the Chickens and Pigs record ‘Guitars Food Music Beer Dog’ in 2021.

The original was intended as a final meditation at the end of a Covid-era group of songs, a gentle landing coming out of pandemic chaos with two languid electric guitars and harmony vocals. The updated version, the title track of the new record, is a desperate grasping out from inside the tumult—a tornado of snarling, yowling guitars, pounding bass, and drums with vocals to match. I played all the guitars, Sandra Senn provided powerful drumming, and co-producer Sean McPherson added a pummeling bass line.

The lyrics are pretty minimalist. Like the Stones said—we all need someone we can bleed on. In ‘Willow Pillow,’ it’s someone to bend with, someone to provide compassion and support through all of life’s ups and downs.”

Evans’ musical journey, influenced by a diverse array of genres and experiences, traces back to his rural upbringing in Georgia and Southwest Florida. From childhood encounters with Lynyrd Skynyrd to revelatory concerts by icons like Bob Dylan and Tom Petty, his passion for music grew, ultimately leading him to pursue his own artistic path.
