The French band No Tongues reveals a stunning music video directed by Thomas Rabillon for ‘Makam Fantôme’, a track from their superb latest album ‘ICI’ released in 2022 via Carton Records.
Between the music video and live recording, the musicians of No Tongues, accompanied by singer Linda Oláh, give us a glimpse of the extent of their research and sound experimentation in the raw, picturesque setting of an old church, summoning the spirits of the place to bring their incantatory music to life.
No Tongues, a French experimental endeavor initiated in 2015, adopts a distinctive approach with each album, imbuing them with unique conceptual frameworks. In their latest release, ‘ICI,’ the group delves into aesthetic exploration, particularly with the integration of electronic elements, thus reshaping their artistic identity.
The methodology of No Tongues involves immersing themselves in collected sounds weeks prior to studio sessions. While many elements are refined and developed during this period, no pre-existing compositions are set. With four weeks dedicated to studio recording and composition (excluding mixing), the band embraces a novel creative journey, fully immersed in the raw essence of sound. Here, editing and post-production tools stand readily available, enhancing their exploration.
