‘Economy’ by Manu Louis | New Album, ‘Club Copy’

Exclusive video premiere of ‘Economy’ by Manu Louis, taken from the upcoming album ‘Club Copy,’ out September 30, 2023 via IGLOO Records.

‘Club Copy’ brings us to a futuristic world dominated by standardisation, in which your place on Earth no longer matters. In Paris, Bangkok or Hanoi everything is the same. Visitors are doomed to find the same street, the same shops, playing the same music, frequented by people wearing the same clothes, made in the same places… However in one of these towns, a small oasis of resistance is emerging in spite of itself.

Built on the ashes of Manu Louis’ latest release, ‘Club Copy’ bounces again to the sexy BPM of the slowed-down clubs. Manu is joined by an impressive cast of collaborators: Spanish singer from Las Victimas Civiles, Héctor Arnau; Brussels experimental jazz vocalist, Lynn Cassiers; and performer Vicente Arlandis offer their voices. Mastering by the cult Rashad Becker sculpts the bass and widens the space, and Spanish artist Escif’s hijacked covers plunge us into the heart of the beauty of the photocopy shop. ‘Club Copy’ is undoubtedly the Berlin singer/producer’s most accomplished, touching and disturbing work to date.

“…Lynn Cassiers responds to Manu Louis, notably on Economy, the second single cut for the dancefloor and yet based on an unequivocal observation: we will all crash together. The pilot should be replaced but no, he wants to continue a little longer. He is free, like the market… Are we all there then? Encore”

Belgium born, now Berlin based, he studied composition with legendary composer Fréderic Rzewski, electronic music on the internet, and dancing during his concerts. A passionate singer, and knob agitator, he also plays the guitar in his own unique punk jazz way… Equally at home working with electronic dance, classical or jazz musicians, Manu has performed his stuff from completely acoustic solo up to 200 wind players and everything in between.

He mixes things that cross his path, and creates new adventures of provocative and decontextualized juxtapositions. His general blueprint remains the same throughout, but the ingredients he uses vary; from dissident chanson française, genial dilettante, avant-garde composers, new beat, old hits, art-pop & hard bop.

Under his name, Manu has released three LP’s and several 7’’ on Igloo Records, Le Pacifique records and New Pangea. Recent years saw him perform his electronic solo shows more than 500 times.

With Sylvain Chauveau, he co-founded Zero Carbon Records (an impossible label converted into “no oil/no electricity” tours). With Mary Ocher, he has co-curated the Underground Institute Festival (Berlin). And with Adrien Lambinet, he co-directed Music for Trees, a tribute to Garrett List.
