Les Pommes de Lune – ‘Premiere Transmission’ (2022)
From Montreal, Quebec, Canada, arrives Les Pommes de Lune. A relatively new band, they recently released their debut single, packaged under the title of ‘Premiere Transmission’, which is downright brilliant.
Scouring the halls of rarities, Les Pommes de Lune stumbled across ‘Une Fluer’, a tune originally issued in 1967 by French actress and singer Christine Delaroche and decided to record their own version. Crawling with rainbow melodies, sparkling orchestration and a harmonious feel altogether, the long lost track oozes with Summer Of Love sensibilities.
The flipside of the single is just as enthralling, but offers an entirely different sound and style. Although you may not recognize the song by its French name, ‘Les Chimeres’ is ‘Pictures Of Matchstick Men’, which was a huge hit for Status Quo in early 1968. In the hands of Les Pommes de Lune, the psychedelic pop classic is transformed into a heavyweight fashion based along the lines of Vanilla Fudge. Crashing chords, thudding percussion and mesmerizing patterns form one heck of a brain-rattling beauty.
Les Pommes de Lune have certainly gotten off to a great start, so you can bet your bellbottoms we will be hearing more from the band soon. Both these songs are sung in French, but even if you don’t speak the tongue, that is of little importance because we all know music is a universal language.
