‘Randagio’ (feat. Mai Mai Mai) by Go Dugong | New Album, ‘Meridies’

Exclusive video premiere of ‘Randagio’ by Italian producer, DJ, musician and cosmic traveller, Giulio Fonseca aka Go Dugong. The song is featuring Mai Mai Mai and is taken from the upcoming album, ‘Meridies’, out 12th November via Hyperjazz Records/La Tempesta Dischi.

Directed and produced by the artist Giacomo Laser, this videoclip is an allegory of the human condition. A blind and clumsy being moves through the wastelands of the Taranto countryside. Like a stray accompanied by his own shadows, he goes looking for something he cannot see. He is the personification of callous disregard and the terrible choice of the human being to not caring about the consequences. A metaphorical journey that is a sum of errors to which men ends up hopelessly getting used to.

The contrast between natural beauty and the mask underlines the violence of the condition but also the really last possibility of redemption.

The ‘Randagio’ by Laser wants to be a warning to open eyes and heart to beauty, without forgetting our shadows that accompany us throughout our life.

With Mai Mai Mai, we share the research scope, so it was nice and very stimulating to collaborate with him on this track. Although developed remotely due to a pandemic, “Randagio” is the result of what unites Toni and me as artists and as music lovers. A dark psychedelic and noise tammurriata inspired by some of the abandoned and unfinished places in Southern Italy.” – Go Dugong.

Giulio Fonseca is recognised as a leading figure in the contemporary panorama of electronics research. His new album ‘Meridies is the result of an investigation into traditional Apulian music from the south of Italy, inspired by his hometown, Taranto, and the phenomenon of the Tarantella. Tarantism is deeply rooted in South Italian folklore and history between the 15th and 18th century. It was a psychological illness related to a schizophrenic state, widely believed at the time to be caused by the bite of a tarantula, scorpion or snake. Legend has it that the victim, mainly women, would fall into a fit and to achieve healing, they would be subject to a ritual where they would be driven into a state of trance, thanks to a frenzied dance called Tarantella.

‘Meridies’ represents a fundamental step in the reinterpretation of the rhythmic and musical tradition of Southern Italy, filtered through electronic synthesis and contemporary languages. Rhythmic pizzica interweave with organs, old synthesizers, lysergic guitars and makeshift objects such as old cardboard boxes and cookware, used as side percussions to the traditional tambourine, all immersed in a psychedelic magma of deep trance and hypnosis for the purpose of “healing”.
