‘Échos Obscurs de l’Orient’ by Harrga
Italian tape label Commando Vanessa has announced the release of a compilation to celebrate its first year of activity. Titled ‘Mansplained!’, the compilation will be out on tape and digitally today, January 28th.
A diverse, colorful, exaggerated, intimate, political, sexy compilation which includes fourteen very different acts. In addition to Harrga it includes tracks by Deeat Palace, Pillbug Junction feat. Kelso Ashby, Siksa, The Marquis, Hess, Lili Putana, Flawed God, Iphigenia Lee, Black Propaganda, Accident du Travail, Techno Thriller, Innocent Heretic feat. Ruin, Marie Guilleray and Online Lipnem.
As the label puts it is “just a flow of different music we like”.
Harrga delivers a dark harrowing atmosphere in ‘Echos Obscurs de l’Orient’, a track improvised for the Harrga album launch in 2019. The video follows the suggestions of the orientalism mentioned in the title, using strong images but at the same time alienating them from their original context in a echoed yet powerful vision.
Harrga (‘a burn’ in the Moroccan Darija dialect) are a duo based in Bristol: Dali de Saint Paul (EP/64, Viridian Ensemble & DSC) and Miguel Prado (Nzumbe). Dali de Saint Paul mixes poetics and politics, singing in French, Darija and some English.

She spits with fire and fury, though there is a tangible compassion in her pained lamentations. Paired with Miguel Prado’s singular, amorphous noise-design, they conjure a seething and thoroughly anomalous vision of contemporary industrial music.
