“Have you ever been in love?”
Niko Novak has been active in a punk rock band Dicky B. Hardy from 1994 until 2001. Now he lives in Berlin and has been releasing four full-length albums with the spaced out blues duo Incurabili and another four under his own name.
Together with the albums from his solo career comes a book with all the lyrics from the albums. This is not surprising as the lyrical content is a very important part of his music. His dark and haunting voice tells reflections and stories that are sung over the minimalistic strumming on his electric bass guitar.
His stripped-back music with his deep haunting vocals reminds us of greats like Leonard Cohen, Bill Callahan or Michael Gira.
The video for ‘DNA’ was made by film director Matevž Jerman and is a beautiful piece of art, capturing the deadly play between a cat and a snake, with Niko’s low vocals repeatedly asking “Have you ever been in love?”.
