Vinyl of the Day

Good morning, everyone. Allow me to introduce you to Yashlik, a stunning recording from Uzbekistan, out now via Maqom Soul Records: a label dedicated to reviving rare and overlooked music from Central Asia. This is the label’s first reissue: the seminal 1978 album by the Uyghur vocal-instrumental ensemble, Yashlik. Although the group was born out of a theatrical setting, they transcended those boundaries to create a unique blend of Uyghur folk melodies, jazz influences, Soviet estrada, and traces of psych rock. It is a truly fascinating listen, especially considering it was created with very limited musical influence from the West.
