Abstract Concrete Share ‘You Will Be Happy’ from New Album ‘Guilty Buildings’
Charles Hayward’s Abstract Concrete have shared a new single and video, ‘You Will Be Happy’, taken from their second album ‘Guilty Buildings’, due November 19 through The state51 Conspiracy.
We spoke to Hayward when Abstract Concrete released their self-titled debut in 2023, and more recently featured ‘Small World’ back in August.
‘You Will Be Happy’ began on a battery-powered keyboard with its own drum machine. The band describe the song as “a lullaby of coercive control”, drawing on the sort of reassuring promises corporations make about the future, even as one crisis follows another.
According to the band, the music sits somewhere between an advertising jingle and a nursery rhyme, with something rather darker going on underneath. The new album contains six tracks, recorded at Hayward’s underground studio at Lewisham Arthouse in South London and mixed by Nathan Greywater at Listening Ear, near Deptford High Street. Since their debut, Abstract Concrete have toured Europe twice, playing across eleven countries and appearing at festivals including Primavera. ‘Guilty Buildings’ is their first album since the 2023 release.
‘Guilty Buildings’ will be released on November 19, 2026, through The state51 Conspiracy. Pre-save the album here.
