Milli & Bob Share ‘Brésil’ Video | ‘Alys Remixes Deluxe’ Announced

Québec electronic duo Milli & Bob have shared a new video for ‘Brésil’, as they announce ‘Alys Remixes Deluxe’, due digitally on November 6.

There is a rather unusual idea behind Milli & Bob’s latest project. The duo, Millimetrik and Bob Riddim, have been remixing recordings by Québec singer Alys Robi, placing her 1940s voice alongside house, disco, dub and other electronic styles.

‘Brésil’ is one of the tracks they have reworked. Here, Robi’s original vocal is set against house, disco and dub-influenced production.

The video was made using artificial intelligence and takes its visual cues from Robi and the period in which she first became famous.

Born Alice Robitaille in Québec City in 1923, Alys Robi became a major star during the 1940s and one of the first Québec singers to build an international career. Latin American songs were an important part of her repertoire, with numbers including ‘Tico Tico’ helping to make her name far beyond Québec.

By the end of the 1940s, her career had been interrupted by serious mental health difficulties and several years in psychiatric care. She later returned to performing.

Milli & Bob first released ‘Alys ; Remixes’ earlier this year, with versions of songs including ‘Bésame Mucho’, ‘Tico’, ‘Adios Muchacho’, ‘Rum & Coca-Cola’ and ‘Chica Boom’. The forthcoming Deluxe edition continues the project.

‘Alys Remixes Deluxe’ will be released digitally on November 6.
