Chicago songwriter Savanna Ruth has shared ‘In Your Orbit’, the latest single from her debut album ‘The Baseball Diaries’, out October 23 via Easy Does It Records.

Formerly recording as Burr Oak, Ruth is using ‘The Baseball Diaries’ to begin again under her own name. Much of the record was written while a long relationship was coming apart and she was trying to work out what life, love and desire might look like outside it.

‘In Your Orbit’ comes from one of the happier moments in that period.

“It’s about a magical date/summer fling I had with this lovely person, who was actually the first date I had after over 5 years of being with my ex,” Ruth says. “This was the very beginning of us opening up our relationship and trying non-monogamy. I was incredibly lucky to have had this enchanting first date and then we ended up seeing each other once more but sadly she was only in Chicago on business that week and had to fly back the next day. But we kept in touch and now are good friends.”

There is something appropriately brief about the story behind the song. Two people meet, have a couple of days together, then life takes them elsewhere. Ruth doesn’t try to turn it into anything larger than it was, and that gives ‘In Your Orbit’ much of its warmth.

The album was produced by Scott Lucas of Local H and Blake Smith, with John Agnello handling the mix. Agnello’s long list of credits includes Dinosaur Jr., The Breeders and Redd Kross.

‘In Your Orbit’ follows the earlier singles ‘Everything We Made’ and ‘Bad Thoughts’. ‘The Baseball Diaries’ arrives October 23.

Savanna Ruth will also be on the road through September and early October, finishing with an album release show at Chicago’s Color Club on October 23.
