Serguei Spoutnik Shares New Single ‘Digital Fruit’ From Upcoming Album ‘Transcend’
French artist Serguei Spoutnik has released ‘Digital Fruit,’ the second single and opening track from his upcoming album ‘Transcend,’ out May 29 via Independent Practice.
Serguei Spoutnik is the solo project of Damien Lecoq, a Le Mans-based artist and former member of QDRPD. His earlier release, Subject, Verb, Complement, came out in 2020 through Santé Records, introducing a sound built around ambient textures, spoken voice, and soft electronic unease.
‘Transcend’ expands that world in a more open and personal way. The album was partly shaped during a residency in Reykjavík, where Lecoq spent seven days meeting seven local artists. Each artist lent him a synthesizer for one day. In return, he gave each of them an old camcorder. The blurred, unstable, and unfamiliar footage became part of the emotional language behind the record.
‘Digital Fruit’ sets the tone for the album. The track drifts slowly through wide synth tones, spoken fragments, and half-formed melody. The vocal begins close to speech before gradually opening into something more songlike, though it never fully becomes pop. Halfway through, a clean, reverberated guitar cuts through the haze, giving the piece a brief sense of light and space. From there, the track slowly fades back into a suspended vocal line.
Lyrically, ‘Digital Fruit’ works with images of roots, antennas, and hidden networks. It treats desire as something organic and difficult to control. The record was produced by Serguei Spoutnik and Apollo Noir, recorded between Reykjavík, Le Mans, and Vichy, mixed by Apollo Noir, and mastered by Adrien Pallot.
With ‘Digital Fruit,’ Serguei Spoutnik offers a striking point into ambient, experimental, and still rooted in the shape of a song.
