RAVAGE Fractures the Screen in ‘Hyeronimus Dream’
The math is simple enough. Rage plus sauvage equals RAVAGE. But listening to their debut album, specifically the track ‘Hyeronimus Dream,’ you realize the formula is a lot messier than that. It’s a sonic bruise.
Released back in November through Sérotine Records and Mr Morezon, the self-titled record now has a visual counterpart. Director Bertrand Monboisset filmed the band playing, but he also successfully translated the tension. He uses a minimalist two-tone split-screen setup that feels claustrophobic in the best way.
Watch closely. As the track builds, that clean visual line starts to fracture. The colors bleed and double up, mimicking the interference pattern of the music itself. It’s trance-inducing. You get lost in the duality of it, caught somewhere between a dream state and a conflict zone.
What fascinates me is the instrumentation. You don’t expect this much heaviness from a trio of drums and two violins. Anthony Laguerre, Bastien Pelenc, and Mathieu Werchowski create these doom-laden, electroacoustic textures that feel huge.
They are taking this show on the road across France and Belgium this month and next. If you are near any of these spots, get yourself to a show.
