Nick Kizirnis Slides ‘Through the Motions’
Dayton indie rock veteran Nick Kizirnis is back with ‘Through the Motions,’ a standout track from his latest ATOM Records release, ‘Every Moment.’
Kizirnis channels the jagged energy of Bob Mould and the fuzz of Dinosaur Jr., weaving angular riffs around a moody core. It’s a sound he’s earned honestly, having spent decades in the indie trenches with acts like the Mulchmen and collaborating with lo-fi royalty like Tobin Sprout (Guided by Voices) and Jim Macpherson (The Breeders). While the track nods to his roots, it doesn’t get stuck there. Decades into a career that began in the Dayton underground, the guitarist and songwriter is still pushing his sound into new directions.
‘Through the Motions’ captures a musician who knows exactly who he is. Kizirnis takes the collaborative energy he sharpened playing alongside heavyweights like Tobin Sprout and adds a layer of vivid storytelling. The result is a track that is trading the surf-rock of the Mulchmen for the angular weight of alt-rock giants.
