Eric Silverman Lands ‘Fly’: A Catchy Slice of “Psych Yacht-Rock”
Oakland musician Eric Silverman channels the legendary spirit of the Bay Area’s Record Plant (now 2200 Studios) for his new single, ‘Fly.’
Following his 2023 desert-rock release, ‘Stay In It,’ Silverman returned to the Bay Area to record with producer Damien Lewis (known for work with Kevin Parker and James Bay). They secured a session at the historic Record Plant—now 2200 Studios—in Sausalito, a location where many legendary artists have recorded classic albums.
It was in this atmosphere of musical history that the new single, ‘Fly,’ was spontaneously conceived. Silverman describes the track as a “total gift,” emerging fully formed after he picked up a 12-string guitar during a drum setup. The final product is a catchy slice of psychedelic yacht-rock. Lyrically, Silverman explains the song is focused on the theme of evolution and continuous change, captured by the phrase: “Change or die. Worm to butterfly.”
‘Fly’ marks Silverman’s first release under the Oakland-based label, Royal Oakie Records.
