ELECTRIO Unveils ‘O Quam Tristis’ as a Haunting Preview of Debut Album ‘STABAT MATER’
Experimental trio ELECTRIO has dropped their second single, ‘O Quam Tristis,’ ahead of their debut album ‘STABAT MATER,’ out September 26, 2025 via Fresh Ribes.
The track offers a striking reinterpretation of a centuries-old hymn, merging classical roots with an edgy sound. ELECTRIO thrives on contrast. The group combines Francesco Rista’s crystalline guitar, Sandra Lind Þorsteinsdóttir’s soaring soprano, and Simone Giordano’s electronics. Together, they create music that lives between eras, blurring the lines between baroque tradition and contemporary experimentation.
‘O Quam Tristis,’ which translates to “Oh, how sorrowful,” draws from the medieval hymn ‘Stabat Mater,’ a piece that mourns the Virgin Mary’s grief at the crucifixion. In ELECTRIO’s hands, that sorrow becomes haunting and alive. Þorsteinsdóttir’s voice aches with emotion while Rista’s guitar provides a sharp melodic edge. Giordano’s electronics weave in and out, adding depth and improv textures. The result is a modern lament echoing across centuries.
This single sets the tone for ‘STABAT MATER,’ an album that promises to challenge expectations of what sacred and experimental music can sound like.
