Exclusive video premiere of ‘Butcher Block’ by Hot Mustard, taken from their forthcoming sophomore album ‘Seconds,’ out March 31st 2023 via Color Red.

The critically acclaimed and award winning instrumental recording duo, Hot Mustard (Jack Powell, Nick Carusos), began to roll out material from their forthcoming sophomore album ‘Seconds,’ this past November when they dropped the first single, ‘Mustard Green’. This holiday season, they provide us with yet another glimpse of the new record with the second single, ‘Butcher Block,’ out December 30th. The track features the usual suspects of collaborators, Jordan McLean of Antibalas on trumpet and TV on the Radio trombonist Dave “Smoota” Smith, along with Ross Bogan of Doom Flamingo and Lureto on organ.

The duo draws influence from late 60s/early 70s funk/soul/library music and blends it with the building blocks of golden era boom bap hip-hop resulting in a unique musical identity that is nothing short of astounding and utterly addictive. With ‘Butcher Block,’ Hot Mustard continues in this tradition of using the sounds of yesterday to create the sounds of today and even tomorrow.

“The animated music video was created by band member Jack Powell (Opus Thimble), whose moving illustrations draw comparison to the great Terry Gilliam (Monty Python).
