‘Sudden Lag’ by Fomies | Album Premiere

Exclusive album premiere of ‘Sudden Lag’ by Fomies, out October 21st 2022 via Hummus Records and Irascible Records.

If ‘Reversal’, Fomies’ previous release, called for the upheaval of a society in absolute loss of control, it is clear that a year later nothing has changed. It is therefore with resignation, hours of solitary confinement, infinite jams and analog material that the band decided to blow, by themselves, a new wind onto their liberating kraut/fuzz rock.

A strong example of organic growth in a fragmented world? Since their debut in 2017, Fomies have continued to blossom with ease at a confusing pace (1 EP and 3 albums to date). Going from a direct and incisive fuzz to a more substantial and detailed sound without ever losing any of their raw authenticity, the five-piece lay with ‘Sudden Lag’ the highest step of their ascent towards an electric and wild Eden.

Surfing the wave of a never-ending global pandemic, it is with the winning formula of Reversal that the band entered, once again, an old French farm rehabilitated into a recording studio. Soundly disconnected from the outside world, Fomies enjoyed all the freedom and experimentation needed to produce a fourth record made of fiery jams, caffeine excess and galloping riffs; confirming once and for all their firm desire to dig a sonic maze between dancing krautrock and feverish fuzz.

And to their allusive lyrics, surly groove and analog grain, the band adds here the audacity and the intemperance that makes their live performances such a unique experience. Throwing away all the radio formats and other amputated hits of all kinds, Fomies fully bloomed by freeing themselves from constraints and put, here more than ever, all their scenic eloquence on record. A crazy ride which might not change the course of events, but will at least have the serious merit of jolting a little more the ruins of a world on which we’re bound to dance.

Recorded at le Grand Biolay (France), then mixed and mastered by Loïc Gaillard, “Sudden Lag” has an artwork by visual artist Nicolas Dehaudenzi.
