Rickshaw Billie’s Burger Patrol Announce ‘Ca$h Grab’, Share Title Track
Rickshaw Billie’s Burger Patrol have announced their new album, ‘Ca$h Grab’, arriving October 23 via Permanent Teeth / RBBP. The title track is out now.
After calling their last record ‘Big Dumb Riffs’, Rickshaw Billie’s Burger Patrol have gone with another title that doesn’t take itself too seriously. The joke with ‘Ca$h Grab’ is that the music underneath it is actually some of the trio’s most personal so far.
Leo Lydon, Sean St. Germain and Aaron Metzdorf haven’t suddenly gone soft. The 8-string guitar, heavily distorted bass and huge drums are all still there. This time, though, the songs leave more room for melody.
Metzdorf describes the new material as “more pop song forward, while still in the idiom of heavy music.”
That change is easy to hear on ‘Ca$h Grab’. It’s heavy, but the chorus is doing just as much of the work as the riff. Lyrically, the song gets into money, expectation and the strange pressure of trying to remain whatever other people think you are.
“The heavier parts are even heavier, but more fleshed out,” Metzdorf says. “And the heaviness is not just in a guitar riff, but heavy lyrics, heavy melody. Some of the heaviest parts of the whole album are Leo’s vocals. While the poppier stuff has a more prominent role on this one.”
‘Ca$h Grab’ runs to 14 tracks. Metzdorf sings lead on five of them, including opener ‘Freakshow’, which picks up some of the unease left hanging at the end of ‘Big Dumb Riffs’ on ‘In a Jar’. Elsewhere, Lydon pushes his vocals further on songs including ‘Fate Is’, ‘Peaches’ and the title track.
The band have already shared several pieces of the record this year, including ‘Peaches’, ‘Bough Down’ and ‘The Disappearing Man’. With the title track, the shape of the new album is becoming a little clearer: still very much Rickshaw Billie’s Burger Patrol, only with the melody turned up alongside everything else.
‘Ca$h Grab’ will be released October 23 on LP, CD, cassette and digitally.
