Datura4 Return With New Focus Track ‘Under a Rock’ Ahead Of ‘High on the Low Brow’
Western Australian rock band Datura4 have shared their new focus track ‘Under a Rock’, taken from their forthcoming album ‘High on the Low Brow’, out June 19 via Alive Naturalsound Records.
The album is the band’s sixth studio release and follows 2022’s ‘Neanderthal Jam’. Recorded once again in Fremantle, Western Australia, ‘High on the Low Brow’ finds Dom Mariani and company digging back into the sound that has made Datura4 such a loved name among fans of heavy Australian rock. It’s no great secret really, just stout riffs, a touch of the blues & psych, and the sound of a really great band.
‘Under a Rock’ gives a clear taste of where the record is heading, with Mariani’s guitar right at the front and the band leaning into their usual straightforward rock sound. Datura4 have always sounded best when they keep things direct, and this new material seems to carry that same spirit.
Speaking about ‘Under a Rock’, frontman Dom Mariani says: “I’ve been jamming on a boogie groove since I was a kid. Discovering Canned Heat’s ‘Cookbook’ album and being exposed to Aussie boogie-masters like Carson and Coloured Balls only deepened that obsession, leading to long afternoons spent jamming in my parents’ garage with my high school band.
“I’ve had a lot of fun with it, always trying to spin it somewhere new. ‘Under a Rock’ was borne from that fun, the band jamming it out and letting it roll. Lyrically, ‘Under A Rock’ taps into a feeling of disconnection and wanting to escape the noise of the current world we live in, which seemed to fit the rhythm and mood perfectly.”
‘High on the Low Brow’ will be released on limited vinyl, CD and digital formats through Alive Naturalsound Records.
