Chevreuil Debut ‘Plexus,’ a Minimalist Sculpture in Motion from the Forthcoming ‘Stadium’

If you walked into a room and saw a 1976 Ludwig kit surrounded by a four-amp quadraphonic fortress, you wouldn’t necessarily think “rock band.” You’d think “installation.”

That is precisely how Julien F. and Tony C. have treated Chevreuil since their art school days in the late nineties. After twenty years of silence, they have recalibrated. Their latest offering, ‘Plexus,’ is a masterclass in what happens when you strip music down to its skeletal remains and find that the bones are made of magnets.

While their previous comeback single ‘Tartarus’ teased a wider sonic palette, ‘Plexus’ is a heavy beast. It leans into a minimalistic rock architecture that feels more like an actual physical event. Tony’s guitar has undergone a metamorphosis, functioning now as a hybrid electro-acoustic engine. It spits out electronic timbres that feel grounded in the earth, all while Julien’s precise, unamplified drumming dictates the geometry of the room. There is a specific kind of tension here that only exists between two people who have operated as a single organism for decades.

This track serves as the heavy anchor for their upcoming double album, ‘Stadium,’ dropping April 24 via Computer Students. The project is an ambitious dive into “the music of the spheres” and barometric oscillations, yet the recording process remains refreshingly nude. Every side of the double LP was captured with identical settings from tracking to mastering. Any shift in mood or texture you hear is purely the result of human touch and the nuance of the performance itself. It’s honest, architectural, and deeply resonant.

‘Stadium’ is available for preorder now, ranging from high-quality 180-gram vinyl to a deluxe edition housed in a sealed aluminum sleeve.
