Ryan Reidy Unveils ‘Impossible To Love,’ Third Single Ahead of ‘Fringe Body Parts’
Chicago/Los Angeles musician Ryan Reidy has released ‘Impossible To Love,’ the third single from his upcoming album, ‘Fringe Body Parts,’ due November 7th on Money Pyre Records.
The track follows ‘Rainbow Mountain’ and ‘Dr. Felix And His Fringe Body Parts’ singles. The forthcoming 12-track album is a magnificent take on art rock, distinguished by its noisy, unhinged sound yet filtered through pop-forward melodies and a distinctly Midwestern DIY lens. The LP’s sound is an aggressive blend of punk, noise rock, and garage rock.
Reidy drew immediate lyrical inspiration for ‘Impossible To Love’ from European cinema, specifically the Polish film White from Krzysztof Kieślowski’s Three Colors trilogy. “It left a great impact on me about relationships, but more specifically about two people coming together and the tragedy/comedy of simply existing,” Reidy stated, noting he wrote the song immediately after viewing the film.
The album’s provocative title, ‘Fringe Body Parts,’ serves as a direct commentary on contemporary cultural politics. Reidy explains it critiques “podcasters, influencers, and any other grifter/conmen that have co-opted spaces that used to be filled with leftist/progressive/socialist leaning artists.” He adds, “It’s commentary on people that misrepresent their fantasies as being simultaneously part of but outside of any academic discipline… there are no fringe historians just like there are no fringe kidneys.” Musically, the record is an “uncivilized, ugly, feral, anguished, confused” artistic expression of current times.
Reidy’s roots run deep in the underground music landscape, having previously played in acts like Ari Ari and Thunders, and served as a touring musician for Margot & The Nuclear So And So’s and Male Gaze. After relocating to Los Angeles, he began recording under his own name in 2014, releasing earlier self-produced albums while focusing on recovery.
