Darker Lighter Unveils Kinetic Remix of ‘Hanging On’
Los Angeles-based songwriter, producer, and multi-instrumentalist Salar Rajabnik, the creative force behind Darker Lighter, is back with a dynamic new take on ‘Hanging On’.
Following the release of his highly anticipated self-titled debut album this past May, Rajabnik returns to his debut single, ‘Hanging On,’ giving it a striking new life in a remix by acclaimed producer Justin Raisen (Sky Ferreira, Yves Tumor, Charli XCX).
Originally dropped just over a year ago, the track resurfaces with a jolt of fresh, dancefloor-ready intensity. Raisen has injected a pulsating techno beat, playful vocal effects, and a blistering synthesizer solo from session ace Joe Kennedy. Mastered by Grammy-winner Mike Bozzi (Kendrick Lamar, Childish Gambino), the remix amplifies the song’s urgency and allure while keeping its infectious, earworm hook firmly in place.
The collaborative spark ignited from Rajabnik and Raisen’s mutual admiration, a connection fostered through legendary artist Kim Gordon. “Justin and I became fast friends through Kim,” Rajabnik shares. “We bonded over similar artistic ethos, despite having very different sonic palettes… I simply told him to ‘fuck it up’ in his own way — and what came out is a version that’s totally different from the original, but perfectly complementary.”
With years of behind-the-scenes experience in indie rock and post-punk, including collaborations with Foo Fighters, Queens of the Stone Age, and Kim Gordon, Rajabnik stepped fully into the spotlight with his debut LP.
