Tea Eater Unleashes ‘I Don’t Believe in Bad Luck’
Tea Eater is a weirdo art punk band from Brooklyn fronted by Tarra Thiessen, turning fuzz-drenched chaos into campy sonic spells that crack open reality just wide enough to let the strange slip in.
Their new video for ‘I Don’t Believe in Bad Luck,’ the title track off their latest LP, doubles as both anthem and anti-omen. The lyrics are written from the perspective of Bad Luck itself, which doesn’t care what you manifested today or what your cats did (they’ve got nine lives and avoid bad luck anyway). Bad Luck doesn’t even think of itself as bad — it’s humans who project that onto it. The video, shot by Emily Hughston Hoffman in New Orleans, adds another layer to the song’s playful nihilism. Tarra and Emily wandered the city leaving chalices in unexpected places, injecting randomness into the universe and confusing whatever energy Bad Luck was channeling that day.
The result is a surreal visual spell that glows with chaos and charm. Following tours through the US and Europe, and with members of Gustaf and Sharkmuffin in its ranks, Tea Eater continues to raise eyebrows and vibrations. This track and video are both a riot and a ritual… a celebration of chance, strangeness, and the kind of magic you only find when you stop looking for meaning.
