Mia Vita Violenta Release Debut Album ‘A Matter of Perception’
Mia Vita Violenta have been carving out their own space in the French underground since 2012.
Originally a trio from Paris—Charlie Fannière (bass/vocals), Romain Saccoccio (guitar/vocals), and Corentin Sarkadi (drums)—the band quickly built a sound that nodded to the nervy tension of ‘90s indie, post-rock, and noise icons like Unwound and Blonde Redhead (whose Mia Vita Violenta lends them their name).
After a pair of self-released EPs in 2013 and 2014, a lineup shift in 2015 brought in bassist Hugo Lefebvre and guitarist Paul Deligny (of Nordkapp and Saar). The expanded lineup pushed their sound into more volatile, finely-sharpened territory. That transition crystallized with ‘Grey Seas’ (2017), their third EP and first recorded with engineer Camille Jamain (Enob, Foudre!, Le Réveil Des Tropiques). It showcased a more focused, serrated dynamic and earned the band a reputation as one to watch.
Over the next several years, the band played extensively across France, Switzerland, and Belgium while crafting their debut full-length. The result, ‘A Matter of Perception,’ was recorded with Valère Brisard (Mime, Crève Coeur) at Studio 89 in Burgundy and mastered by Camille Jamain, preserving the atmospheric intensity and sonic clarity they’ve steadily honed.
Following the departure of original drummer Corentin Sarkadi in 2023, Alain Duguine (Manger les oiseaux) stepped in behind the kit, marking a new phase for the group.
Out today, ‘A Matter of Perception’ picks up where Grey Seas left off, blowing the framework wide open. It deepens their palette of turbulent textures and soaring emotional peaks, magnifying both the fury and the fragility.
The album plays like a blurred photograph of reality—where every moment feels just slightly off, every revelation is clouded, and every truth is suspect. It’s a fever dream of shifting perspectives and elusive answers, chasing flickers of light through the haze.
