‘Size Queens’ by Slummy | New EP, ‘The Wrong Side’
Get ready to dive into the twisted, unfiltered psyche of punk storytelling with the arrival of ‘Size Queens,’ the upcoming single from Slummy, the latest brainchild of rock ’n’ roll author Joshua Mohr.
Known for his sharp prose and gritty narratives, Mohr is now wearing a new hat—frontman of a band that doesn’t actually exist. Or does it?
Slummy is a sonic extension of Saint, the antihero at the heart of Mohr’s upcoming novel Saint the Terrifying (Unnamed Press, 2024). This East Bay punk saga comes alive not just on the page, but on wax. Recorded under the fictional band’s name, the EP ‘The Wrong Side’ (Rare Bird, 2024) is where literature smashes headfirst into music. If you thought the line between fact and fiction was blurry, Mohr’s making sure it’s shattered.
“Technically, Saint wrote these songs,” says Mohr, channeling his fictional Viking-rooted protagonist with eerie authenticity. “I’m just the guy translating his madness into something you can sing along to—or scream along with.”
And scream you will, starting with ‘Size Queens,’ a raucous, unhinged anthem that hits the streets on September 13th. Backed by the LA band Movie Club, the track is a dizzying swirl of fuzzed-out riffs and gut-punching beats, with just the right touch of nihilistic humor. The accompanying music video, a chaotic fever dream directed by Jessamyn Violet, tells the story of a punk squatter couple on the run from a psychotic clown cop—a visual thrill ride starring musicians Eva Gardner (P!NK, Mars Volta) and Fox Deluxx (Pez Heads).
But don’t be fooled—this is more than just a stunt. It’s a project where Mohr’s fictional world collides with his real-life punk roots, blending raw emotion, irony, and the absurdity of modern existence into something truly genre-bending.
With ‘Size Queens’ as your introduction to Slummy’s universe, brace yourself for the EP’s full release on October 22nd, when Mohr’s vision, both literary and musical, comes together in an explosion of sound, story, and chaos.
