‘Hat’s Way of Walking’ by The Secret Beach | New Album, ‘We were born here, what’s your excuse?’
Exclusive video premiere of ‘Hat’s Way of Walking’ by The Secret Beach, taken from their latest album, ”We were born here, what’s your excuse?,’ out now via Victory Pool Records.
The new album was crafted under the guidance of legendary producer Rob Fraboni and is teeming with home-grown warmth; it’s 16 tracks casually unfurl spools of intimate texture, hushed melodies, and a wholly inviting atmosphere that puts the listener virtually in the same room as these timeless numbers. The songs – many of them barely cracking the two-minute mark – fly effortlessly by.
Today also marks the release of The Secret Beach’s version of The Famous Sandhogs’ song ‘Hat’s Way of Walking,’ accompanied by a fantastic video created by Little Jack Films. Discovering the Famous Sandhogs in early 2020 was life-changing for Micah Erenberg; as an avid fan of underground music, their extensive, anonymous discography—including over 60 albums and unique projects like the 100-song “choose your own adventure” collection—was a treasure trove. “Naturally, I became obsessed with the Sandhogs and quickly discovered their strong support of our local music scene… I decided to test the “Song-Poem Store”, which resulted in them producing three fully recorded songs in the span of three days. I couldn’t believe the productivity rate.” This fascination led to a friendship and creative collaboration, resulting in many of Erenberg’s poems set to their music and a few music videos for The Secret Beach.
The video for ‘Hat’s Way of Walking’ is especially meaningful, featuring a dedication to Erenberg’s late friend Alex D. and shot in a memorial grove in his honor. Little Jack’s serendipitous arrival with three bags of hats added a unique touch, dedicated to homeowner Ron C. “I really love this song and this video so much. To me, they wholly capture the essence of the entire record,” Erenberg remarks. “And I hope you’ll check out the Famous Sandhogs, and maybe even submit a poem to their Song-Poem store. Take it from me – it’s incredibly fun.”
The Secret Beach pays a subtle tribute to Manitoba, reaching beyond the usual “cold and landlocked” portrayals with vivid character studies and highly relatable expressions of uncertainty, growth, and the shifting world around them.
