‘High On Ripple’ by Dragged Up | Album Premiere

Exclusive album premiere of ‘High On Ripple’ by Dragged Up, out April 5, 2024 via DU Recs (LP), Cruel Nature Records (MC) and Rare Vitamin Records (CD).

Emerging from Glasgow, Dragged Up is a unique blend of psych-garage proto-punk with a distinctive spoken word aspect. Formed in late 2018 by Eva Gnatiuk (formerly associated with Violent Butlins and Escape from GLA), alongside Simon Shaw (previously of Youth of America and Trembling Bells) and writer Lisa Jones, the band saw additions of Chas Lalli (from Bad Aura and Vom) in 2019 and Stephen Mors (formerly of The Owsley Sunshine) in 2022.

Following the positive reception of their 2023 EP ‘Hex Domestic’ and the single ‘Missing Person,’ Dragged Up is preparing for the release of their second album, ‘High On Ripple’.

Inspired by a phrase from Martin Scorsese’s 1974 film Alice Doesn’t Live Here Anymore, the album ‘High On Ripple’ showcases Dragged Up’s evolution from their raw garage origins, incorporating elements of Sabbath-esque doom (‘Professor Boo Boo’), ethereal spoken word (‘Die Tryin”), and deconstructed glam-punk (‘Young Person’s Guide’). The album’s artwork, drawing from Japanese woodcut art, complements its thematic exploration of humanity’s disconnection from nature, especially evident in the post-prog rock finale ‘Third Level,’ which utilizes mythological imagery.

Recorded by Robbie Wilson (from The Kundalini Genie) and Chris Geddes (from Belle and Sebastian), mixed by Tommy Duffin (from The Cosmic Dead), and mastered by Sam Smith (from Mother and The Addicts) at Glasgow’s prestigious Green Door Studio, “High On Ripple” is poised to offer an enthralling auditory experience.
